As a growing enterprise, Gordon BrothersEquipment Finance has an opening for a Director of Portfolio Management and Underwriting to join our team. This position reports directly to the Senior Managing Director, Head of North America Equipment Finance, and works directly with the other Equipment Finance and Gordon Brothers functional groups including, but not limited to, originations, credit, legal, operations, equipment management and other internal and external partners to underwrite, monitor and manage transaction and portfolio risks and opportunities.
This position will be responsible for all aspects of the credit process including pre-screening, pricing, structuring, underwriting, closing documenting, portfolio monitoring, and workout. This role, in connection with GBEF Management and Corporate Credit, will be a key contributor to ongoing credit policy and procedure development.
In addition, the role is responsible for proactively creating and maintaining positive relationships with vendors, transaction partners, and customers to foster follow-up business and expand relationships.
Success will be measured by contributing to Equipment Finance’s overall business objectives: originating, evaluating, and executing lease financings while increasing the number of deal opportunities and overall revenue and profitability in a risk-aware/managed environment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Investigate, evaluate, and underwrite complex equipment lease transactions in accordance with internal policy requirements
Prepare and present for approval transaction pre-screens and formal approval memos
Monitor portfolio and prepare and present required monitoring memos for management and investment committee meetings
Develop & manage portfolio data acquisition, monitoring processes, reporting and rhythms in coordination with the business line and corporate credit to identify, communicate and manage portfolio risks and opportunities to appropriate constituents
Oversee and manage collection and work-out of troubled credits
Assist in the design and implementation of required systems and processes
Manage, Mentor, and train junior team members
Attend industry events to develop and deepen relationships
Meet with existing and potential clients both during the business day and “after-hours” events
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
BA/BS required
15+ years’ experience with a heavy focus on equipment finance/leasing, disposition, valuation, underwriting, and portfolio management
Experience in a fast-paced, complex, deal-driven, equity/capital risk environment is a must
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Sophisticated business and financial acumen. Extensive experience with complex commercial transactions including Fair Market Value operating leases, sale-leasebacks, credit, structuring, documentation, pricing, residual pricing, and portfolio management
A record of balancing risk-reward business considerations, multi-tasking, problem-solving, and operating in fast-paced and rapid-growth environments in the distressed/ restructuring sectors across a wide range of equipment classes and financing structures
Pragmatic and possess unquestioned integrity, credibility, and character with a high energy level, drive, and a strong work ethic
Demonstrated ability to quickly assimilate complex information from multiple streams of work and engage in constructive dialogue with prospects and clients in real-time
Ability to utilize broad knowledge and perspectives to create financial deal models and structures designed to minimize risk, maximize return, and make informed decisions
Strong writing, advocacy, and negotiating skills and the ability to collaborate with a team under pressure
Exceptional communication and presentation skills
Strong credit and portfolio management acumen including deep knowledge of Fair Market Value leases and related products
Strong awareness and familiarity with industries, related equipment, and associated values and sales channels
Effective time management and excellent organizational skills
Familiarity with SuperTrump, Salesforce, and similar leasing/CRM applications is a plus
